The Tax Exemption status called "501 (c) (3)" is associated with a corporation recognized by the federal government, as an organization whose general purpose can be considered as educational, religious and/or charitable. Some non-profit corporations will have very large budgets and still rely on a level of public support, over and above the money the corporation generates in order to continue providing their services.
